As Joan Laporta prepares to officially take office on Wednesday for his second stint as the president of Barcelona, potential transfers that could happen under him are beginning to gain traction.

Several big-name players have been linked with Barca in the past few months and one of them is, Sergio Aguero from Manchester City. With the Argentine entering the final few months of his contract at the English club and no concrete talks about an extension, clubs around Europe have begun to closely monitor his situation.

Laporta knows that if he manages to bring the prolific forward to Catalunya, he will possibly be solving more than one problem at the club. Earlier, Ronald Koeman has strongly expressed his desire for an out-and-out striker and there certainly aren’t much better than Sergio Aguero on the market. However, according to Mundo Deportivo, the Dutchman prefers Memphis Depay over the Argentine.

Laporta seems to have acted fast and had reportedly reached an agreement with the player. Earlier today, AS has reported that a 2-year agreement has been struck between Laporta and Aguero with the Argentine very close to signing for Barcelona on a free transfer in the coming summer window. He will join his current teammate, Eric Garcia who will also arrive on a free from Manchester City next season.

Aguero, who has been linked to Barca in the earlier stages of his career has gone on to become one of the most lethal strikers of his generation. The Premier League veteran has broken all kinds of goalscoring records in his 10 years at the Manchester club and should be a signing that will be welcomed by the Barcelona faithful with open hands given their recent struggles in the position.

It’s also reported that the arrival of Kun Aguero will not hinder the probable transfer of Erling Haaland, who supposedly is the cornerstone on which Laporta wants to build the project for the 2021-22 season. In the grand scheme of things, Aguero will fulfil a role similar to Martin Braithwaite and will raise the quality levels provided by the Danish.

Aside from that, Aguero’s relationship with Lionel Messi could go a long way in keeping the Barcelona captain at the club.

While it remains to be seen what will happen in the coming transfer window, fans are hopeful that Laporta overcomes all the obstacles thrown his way and takes Barcelona back to glory.
