According to a report published by SPORT, Ronald Koeman has asked for new signings to improve the state of the team, insisting that the squad requires more competition in several positions.
Barcelona have had a rollercoaster season so far, constantly experiencing gob-smacking highs, for example, the win over Juventus; and heart-wrenching lows, case in point the loss against Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Among all this, the team has been the victim of many injuries, with Ansu Fati, Gerard Pique, and Sergi Roberto out for long period of times, while Ronald Araujo, Ousmane Dembele, and Sergino Dest suffering multiple short-term knocks. Consequentially, Ronald Koeman has not found a stable starting XI at the club.
However, despite a disappointing start to La Liga, Barcelona seem to have found their feet in the league, and have not lost a game in their last eight games. The last time they lost in the league was on 6th December 2020 against Cadiz.
To continue this form, though, Barcelona desperately need reinforcements. The likes of Ronald Araujo, Antoine Griezmann, and Clement Lenglet have all registered over 330 minutes each in last week, playing three games that went in extra-time on the bounce. Fatigue is bound to set in some of the starters, while injuries are on the horizon as well.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona presidential candidates want Eric Garcia to sign now rather in the summer transfer window, and believe that they can get an exceptionally discounted purchase option on him. The chase for Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum has not been let go of either, but the Dutch duo falls behind Garcia in their priority.
Barcelona are bound to be boosted by the return of Sergi Roberto soon, who is expected to be back fit for the game against Athletic Bilbao, while Gerard Pique, Philippe Coutinho, and Ansu Fati are all bound to return not before mid to late February.
The Blaugranas will take on Elche in the league tonight in matchday 20 in the hope of closing down on Real Madrid, who registered a dominant 1-4 win over Deportivo Alaves yesternight.
