Despite reports suggesting that Barcelona had decided to end their pursuit of Manchester City superstar Bernardo Silva, a fresh update from Ferran Martinez of Mundo Deportivo states otherwise.
As per the report, while Barça realise that the possibility of signing the Portuguese international is very complicated they are yet to throw the towel in and are working against the clock to try and land the 28-year-old.
Barcelona not giving up yet
It is no secret that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has made Silva his priority target, especially since it was confirmed that Ousmane Dembele would be leaving the club.
However, given the Catalans’ finances, a move was always going to be difficult to pull off, but the club continue to have some hope of convincing Man City.
Earlier this week, reports had claimed that Barcelona had sent in an offer for a loan-to-buy deal which was dismissed as ‘ridiculous’ by the Premier League champions.
But with the club set to complete a few sales and generate income from the Barça Studios lever, there is a belief that they can table an improved offer which might convince City.
Meanwhile, Silva has always wanted to join Barcelona and has held off on renewing his contract with the Cityzens in order to give the Blaugrana time to come up with an offer.
However, the former AS Monaco star is unlikely to wait for much longer, especially with the new Premier League season set to start on Friday.
As such, if there is no substantial progress from Barcelona’s end in the next couple of days or so, Silva may end up signing a new contract with Man City.
Pep Guardiola unwilling to sanction exit
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has previously stated that he would not stand in the way of any player that wishes to leave as long as the club receives a satisfactory offer for him.
But, as far as Silva’s case is concerned, the former Barcelona boss is refusing to sanction an exit.
Having already lost two important players in the form of Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez, the treble-winning Man City boss does not want to part ways with another vital star in Silva.
So, despite Barcelona refusing to give up, signing Silva appears to be an extremely difficult task, especially with the player keen on resolving his future soon.
