Barcelona dealt blow as priority target is close to renewing contract with Man City

It appears that despite all the efforts, Barcelona’s attempts to try and sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City will come to naught once again.

The Catalans had made the 28-year-old their priority target and stepped up the ante in pursuit of the Portuguese midfielder ever since it became clear that Ousmane Dembele will be leaving.

This past weekend, the La Liga champions even sent in an offer for a loan-to-buy deal for the former AS Monaco maestro, which was dismissed as ridiculous by Manchester City.

Silva slipping away yet again

Now, Mundo Deportivo is reporting that despite Silva’s desire to join Barcelona he is now edging closer to renewing his contract with Manchester City.

The 28-year-old, after learning of Barça’s offer for him, spoke to Pep Guardiola to inform of his desire to leave for the Catalan club.

But that has not yielded the desired result as Manchester City still have no intentions to negotiate with any club for his sale – something that has also been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.

As for Silva, the 28-year-old had been prepared to wait for Barcelona but not for much longer. He wants his future to be sorted before the start of the Premier League season this coming Friday and his entourage is aware of the Catalans’ financial situation.

As such, if there is no significant movement over the next few days, the Portuguese international will accept the contract proposal that Manchester City will table and renew with the reigning champions of England and Europe.

Xavi has been insistent on Silva’s signing and believes that a player of his calibre would elevate the team’s level and take them closer to achieving glory in the UEFA Champions League.

However, there is no pessimism within the club regarding a move for the 28-year-old, who is closing in on accepting a renewal offer from Guardiola’s side.
