Xavi Hernandez dreams of Bernardo Silva joining Barcelona. The Manchester City star is rightly considered one of the best in the business and would fit like a hand in a glove in the Spanish tactician’s plans.

The Catalans have been in contact with Manchester City over a possible move for a while now. However, neither do the Premier League side wish to sell their star player nor does Barcelona have the required financial leverage.

According to reports from SPORT, the Blaugranas are very close to withdrawing from the Bernardo Silva deal.

The Portuguese player and Joan Laporta’s administration did everything possible to make it happen, but Pep Guardiola’s side would not budge on their stance.

Xavi has been informed of the club’s inability to sign his dream player. With time running out on the market, Barcelona have urgent decisions to take and the clarity over Silva’s situation will help in the same.

Man City rejected Barcelona’s ‘absurd’ offer

According to reports last week, Barcelona made a formal offer to sign Silva on a loan deal with a clause to purchase him for €50 million. That proposal did not go down well in England and was labelled ‘absurd.’

Silva, whose current market value stands at €80 million, is a key player for Manchester City and they are against the very idea of his leaving the Etihad for Guardiola counts on him heavily.

In fact, the Cityzens have already sent a renewal offer for the Portuguese international, which he is expected to sign as it is become increasingly clear that a move to Barcelona is unlikely to materialise at this point.

One of two fading options

Incidentally, Silva is not the only Manchester City star whose name is fading away from Barcelona’s wish list.

The Catalans were also eyeing Joao Cancelo from the Premier League champions’ setup as a possible reinforcement for the right-back position.

An agreement was in place between the Portuguese star and Barcelona, with only the means of transfer left to discuss with Man City.

But that deal is falling apart too. Barcelona’s financial situation does not permit them to match City’s valuation of the star and it seems that there will be no further players from Guardiola’s setup arriving in Catalonia this summer.
