Joan Laporta made it clear in a press conference a few days ago that Barcelona intend to make more signings after the four they have already, which are likely to come in the form of swap deals. “The market is the same and only player swaps will happen, we have players that we cannot from,” Laporta said.
On the back of the same, one player Barça have been interested in for a long time, and is, at this point, priority numero uno, is Valencia’s Jose Luis Gaya. The left-back has frozen talks for a renewal and could enter into a swap operation which would see Martin Braithwaite and Carles Alena going the other way, as reported by RAC1.
Both Alena and Braithwaite are among players who have been deemed as surplus this summer by the new administration. Both majorly due to an excess of players in similar of same roles. Valencia are interested in both, and had reportedly already given an offer for Alena.
Barcelona need reinforcements in their defence, and with Junior Firpo possibly on his way out, Gaya could act as a more than able deputy who will be ready to become first choice very soon. On the contrary, Jordi Alba has been linked with an exit as well with Inter Milan interested in his services. In that case, Gaya would serve as an immediate replacement for the Spaniard.
Los Murcielagos currently host just two strikers in their team, one of whom is a 34-year-old Kevin Gameiro. Braithwaite could immediately add a third dimension to their act with his incredible pace and versatility in offence. For a club strapped for cash and under really poor management, the big Dane could prove to be an incredible transfer.
As for Alena, he is unlike any other player Voro has in his arsenal right now, with the eye for a pass and the ability to play across the midfield, and if push comes to shove, even in the attack. This deal sounds like the perfect opportunity for both clubs to bolster their squads, and could turn the upcoming seasons on its head.
