President Josep Bartomeu has met with Quique Setién today to discuss the situation of the Barcelona manager. After the 1-2 home defeat against Osasuna on Thursday, many reports claimed that Setién’s position was in danger, especially after Lionel Messi expressed his frustration and anger. However, today’s meeting concluded that the Barcelona boss will continue.

As it stands, no news indicates the coach’s dismissal before the Champions League on August 8th. The president hopes that everyone’s anger will settle down after the five-day vacation before Champions League preparations will start.

Setién said “I do not know whether I will stay for the Champions League, but I hope so” in the press conference following the Osasuna defeat. Reportedly, Bartomeu will not take the ball before the bound and keep watching the coach doing his job. However, the situation does not seem easy for Setién currently, as his relationship with the dressing room has deteriorated.

This should be another good opportunity for Barça to showcase their abilities once more and build on that performance against Juventus, as Alavés are a considerably weaker side to the sort of opposition that the Catalans have had to face so far this campaign.

Having said that, Pablo Machín’s men will try and make life difficult for Barça, similar to what Getafe did, and Alavés will feel confident that with the right sort of game-plan, they can make Koeman’s side slip up in La Liga once more.
