A recent report from Fichajes has offered an update on the future of Memphis Depay. The Barcelona forward is tipped to leave the club at the end of the season after losing prominence in the first team.
Initially brought in to stagger the woes of losing Lionel Messi last summer, the Dutchman has barely featured prominently under Xavi Hernandez.
Injuries have not been kind either, whereas the addition of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Adama Traore, and Ferran Torres in January has seen him fall behind in the pecking order.
Despite his struggles, though, Depay remains the club’s top scorer this season and has attracted interest from a host of clubs across Europe.
Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are some of the clubs keen on securing his services in the summer, but according to the same report, the Premier League duo could face stiff competition from three Serie A clubs: Juventus, Inter Milan, and AC Milan.
All the three Italian clubs are keen on signing a new forward in the summer, with Juventus, in particular, in the market for a replacement for Paulo Dybala, who has been curiously linked with a move to Barcelona.
Inter Milan are targeting the Dutchman as a potential replacement for Lautaro Martinez, another star striker expected to depart Giuseppe Meazza at the end of the season.
Milan’s interest in Depay stems from the club’s reliance on two ageing forwards in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud. While Depay is not exactly young, the 28-year-old is currently in his prime and can offer another dimension to Milan’s attacking play.
Barcelona could find it beneficial to sell Depay to any of these three Serie A clubs, although it remains to be seen whether any of them are willing to match the club’s price tag for the explosive Dutchman, whose current contract at Camp Nou doesn’t expire until 2023.
