Japanese game development and entertainment giant Konami have officially announced that they have cancelled their contract with Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann as their contents ambassador for their famous ‘Yu-Gi-Oh!’ trading cards in light of recent events.

The massive conglomerate issued a statement that read: Konami Digital Entertainment believes, as is the philosophy of sports, that discrimination of any kind is unacceptable.
Previously we had announced Antoine Griezmann as our Yu-Gi-Oh! contents ambassador, however in light of recent events we have decided to cancel the contract.

A video, supposedly from 2018 or 2019 that surfaced on social media, shows Antoine Griezmann alongside Barcelona teammate and fellow Frenchman Ousmane Dembele ridiculing Asian hotel staff who are trying to fix a television in their hotel room while making supposed racial remarks.

The players have since issued apologies on their social media, stating that the allegations are painting them in a wrong light and their intent was not racial. However, the incident has stirred up a lot of controversy and Rakuten, the main sponsors of Barcelona, also a Japanese company, have also come out to express their disappointment.

They stated that they would protest the club and seek an explanation from them on the matter. In turn, Konami, who are partnered with Barcelona for their eFootball PES gaming franchise, will also seek answers from the club and what the future implications of this incident could be.
