Blow for Barcelona as priority right-back target ruled out for 8-10 weeks due to injury

Barcelona’s pursuit of Villarreal and Argentina defender Juan Foyth this summer has been well-publicised. The Blaugrana are in the market for a new right-back and see the 24-year-old as their primary option for the position.
However, Barça’s pursuit of the ex-Tottenham ace had been complicated by the fact that he is protected by a release clause worth €42 million, which is believed to have risen by another 30% this week.
On top of that, there is a fresh impedance in Barcelona’s chase of Foyth as the Argentine has been sidelined with an injury for the next 8-10 weeks.
This claim comes from Gerard Romero, who states that the 24-year-old’s arrival to Spotify Camp Nou is now very complicated due to the latest developments.
Foyth has been a solid performer for Villarreal over the past two years since joining from Tottenham Hotspur. It was enough for Xavi Hernandez, Mateu Alemany & co. to consider a late swoop for the 24-year-old in the ongoing window.
And if his steep valuation was already a major hindrance, the latest injury setback could pretty much end Barcelona’s pursuit of the right-back.
Instead, the Catalan giants could look at much more affordable options in the market, with Thomas Meunier of Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal star Hector Bellerin on the radars of the La Liga heavyweights.
Recent reports even indicated that Barça are in talks with Manchester United over a potential swap deal involving Sergino Dest and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
It will be interesting to see what course of action Barcelona decide on following the latest development surrounding Foyth and his injury.
