Barcelona held an interest in Brazilian midfield prodigy Andrey Santos for some time. But nothing came of it as the club’s financial situation prohibited them from making a move.

In the end, it was Chelsea who ended up signing the 19-year-old midfielder, securing his services from Vasco da Gama in January before loaning him back to the Brazilian outfit for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

Barcelona still attentive to Andrey Santos

Now, though, SPORT is reporting that Barcelona are still very much attentive to the situation of Andrey Santos, who is now on loan at Nottingham Forest from Chelsea.

After he returned to Chelsea from Vasco da Gama in the summer, Mauricio Pochettino decided that the youngster would not be a part of his plans this season.

Barcelona, for their part, had shown an interest in signing Santos in the summer in order to address their requirements in the pivot midfield role, but ultimately settled on having Oriol Romeu because of his experience.

Andrey Santos, meanwhile, joined Nottingham Forest and is struggling to make inroads into the team. He is yet to make a single appearance in the Premier League this season and his only appearance came in the Carabao Cup defeat to Burnley.

Barcelona are very attentive to what happens to Andrey Santos because they see him as a diamond in the rough who has chosen the wrong destination.

At the same time, the 19-year-old is also not entirely happy in the Premier League and would be open to an exit.

The report further adds that Barcelona director Deco has a good relationship with Santos’ agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, who also happens to be the representative of Gabriel Moscardo, another player that the Catalans have their eye on, as do Chelsea.

In fact, the report adds that Barcelona believe that Santos’ situation at Chelsea could help them get an advantage over the Blues in the race for Moscardo, who is seeing his compatriot’s struggles in England.
