Reports earlier today emerged claiming that Barcelona had shown interest in Chelsea youngster Andrey Santos as a possible option to reinforce the pivot position. However, the Blues were not in negotiations with any club to let go of the teenager.

Building on those reports, GE Globo in Brazil are confirming that Barcelona are indeed interested in Santos as a possible candidate to replace Sergio Busquets this summer.

The 19-year-old holding midfielder had been on Barça’s radar in the past, when he was at Vasco da Gama. But Chelsea beat them to his signing in January earlier this year before loaning him back to the Brazilian outfit until the end of the season.

Santos is now back at Chelsea where new manager Mauricio Pochettino wishes to take a look at him in pre-season before deciding on his future.

And, amidst this, Barcelona have registered their interest in the 19-year-old defensive midfielder, with the report even suggesting that there has been some contact between the club and the youngster’s entourage.

Barça manager Xavi Hernandez and new sporting director Deco are both said to be admirers of the teenager and are understood to be interested in his services.

However, signing Santos could prove to be a tricky affair as Chelsea spent around £18 million on his signing only six months ago and have him tied down to a long-term contract until 2030.

So, if Chelsea do agree to negotiate, it would still take a big fee for Barcelona to sign him and only a loan move could be financially feasible for the La Liga champions.

For now, there is more concrete interest in Girona’s Oriol Romeu who is available for just €8 million, making him a much more achievable target for the Blaugrana this summer.
