In an interview with TV3, Xavi talked about Leo’s future. The former Barcelona legend went on to heap praises for his former teammate.

Xavi, Messi, and Andres Iniesta were the pillars of Barça’s success in the late 2000s and early 2010s. The Catalan club bulldozered their opponents during the period and went on to win three consecutive La Liga titles and two Champions League titles, and a solitary Copa Del Rey during 2008-2011.

In the next nine seasons, Barça have accumulated five league titles, six Copa Del Rey titles, and a solitary Champions League trophy.

The Catalan giants have failed to reproduce their domestic form in Europe in the better part of the last decade. This is something which surely irks Xavi as he expressed his opinion that Barça have won less than what they could have with the six-time Ballon D’or winner on their side.

“I’m sorry that we have not taken enough advantage of Messi in recent years. Many times it has made me feel that Leo has not been happy on the pitch, and I’m sorry as a culer that we have not taken enough advantage of having the best player of the world and of history,” said Xavi as he expressed his sorrows for performance in recent seasons.

The current season will end in about three weeks. It’s expected that after the season culminates, the transfer saga that started last year will finally see its end. The very fact that the Argentine wanted to leave the club of his life deeply saddened every Culé, including Xavi, who played 399 times with Leo.

“We have to make Messi happy because with a happy Leo you have a lot more numbers to win titles. Not being happy in what I consider the club of my life makes me sad. It’s very bad. Barça had to do bad that Messi didn’t feel happy,” said Xavi explaining what a happy and settled Messi could do.

Anyone who has watched the Argentine forward in 2021 understands what Xavi wants to portray. We have seen Messi making a transition after the burofax scandal to being happy at Barcelona once again. His performance and attitude have changed drastically since the turn of the calendar. The club currently stands on the verge of a domestic double, and Leo had a big role to play in this ascent.
