When Sergino Dest arrived at Barcelona last summer from AFC Ajax, there were many expectations from the USMNT star. However, things have failed to work out for the 21-year-old who has been unable to fulfil his potential in his eighteen months at the club.

The arrival of Xavi Hernandez as manager offered Dest a clean slate to start afresh again. But, the ex-Ajax ace has struggled to win over the new gaffer at Camp Nou.

Reports earlier indicated that the coaching staff was putting him on individual tactical training as they were left unconvinced by him. But after the game against Bayern Munich, when he was torn to shreds by Alphonso Davies, Xavi & co. reportedly decided to offload Dest from the club.

At 21, Dest has age on his side and has shown potential, but it has not clicked for him at Barça. And clubs are now lining up to sign the United States international, with there being links to the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

Now Fichajes is reporting that two more clubs have shown an interest in signing Dest, in the form of AS Roma and AS Monaco.

Roma, managed by Jose Mourinho, are on the lookout for a new right-back to provide cover and competition for Rick Karsdorp. And, they are believed to be willing to take advantage of Dest’s situation at Barcelona.

Monaco, on the other hand, already have two right-backs in Djibril Sidibe and Ruben Aguilar. But the former’s contract expires at the end of the season. And, Dest could be seen as a potential replacement for the Frenchman, with the Principality outfit eyeing him as they believe he has a high ceiling.

Having spent €25 million on his signing, Barcelona could look to recoup a similar amount from Dest’s sale. Whether either Roma or Monaco can offer that sum remains to be seen.
