The ever-reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has delivered some exciting news regarding Erling Haaland and his links to FC Barcelona. On the journalist’s latest ‘Here We Go’ podcast, he also discusses the situation with Lionel Messi’s contract renewal.
It is believed that Barcelona are definitely among the contenders in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund’s young superstar Erling Haaland. The Norwegian has been grabbing all the headlines this season, scoring goal after goal, making sure that all of Europe’s top clubs take notice.
With Haaland’s release clause set at 75 million euros, the suitors will be circling him like sharks. His current deal expires in 2022. Barcelona are reportedly keen to sign the 20-year old, since the new president Joan Laporta is a big fan of the player.
The striker position has been a major void that needs filling at the club for quite a while now. Especially since Luis Suarez’s departure, Barcelona have lacked an out-and-out goalscorer. Haaland is exactly that and much more.
Currently, no club is in advanced talks with Haaland, confirms Romano, but Barcelona have a chance due to Laporta’s great relationship with the striker’s agent Mino Raiola. They had previously worked on deals together to bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Maxwell to the club during Laporta’s previous tenure.
Haaland has also been linked to Real Madrid, with whom Raiola has never done a deal but wishes to. However, that could be worked on with another one of his many clients.
However, the deal will not be easy since Barcelona find themselves in a very tricky financial situation. They will of course need to manage their wage bill by making major reductions and offloading a few players in the summer if they are to conduct any substantial business.
