Tottenham will not allow 27-year-old Barcelona target to leave on loan – report

Barcelona have finally made a breakthrough in their bid to sign Joao Cancelo, but the club still have their work cut out in the transfer market.

Coach Xavi Hernandez still wants to sign a new midfielder in order to cope with the injury-enforced absence of Pedri.

In the attacking midfield department, Barcelona have explored the possibility of signing Tottenham outcast Giovani Lo Celso. But there are hurdles on the way.

Lo Celso not available on loan

Mundo Deportivo has come up with an update on the future of Lo Celso, suggesting that Tottenham have taken a tougher stance on the player.

As we approach the final few days of the transfer market, it appears the Premier League giants are not interested in sanctioning yet another loan deal for the 27-year-old Argentine.

Spurs want to offload the Argentine permanently this summer, which makes things quite difficult for Barcelona.

Unless the club receive a fresh injection of funds, Barça are not in a position to sign anyone on a permanent deal due to strict Financial Fair Play regulations.

The only option, therefore, is to sign players on a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season. It is a similar strategy the club employed for the loan of Joao Cancelo.

Other clubs also keen

Apart from a move to Barcelona, Lo Celso has other options, including a potential return to his former club Real Betis, though even the Spanish club may face difficulty weighing up a permanent move.

Serie A champions Napoli have reactivated their interest in the Argentine as well, with their move for Gabri Veiga collapsing.

But perhaps more importantly, it appears Tottenham themselves are not all that desperate to get rid of the playmaker, despite him not appearing to be a major part of new manager Ange Postecoglou’s plans at this point.
