As clubs enter the final week of a dramatic summer transfer window, the realm of football finds itself perched upon a precipice of anticipation.

It is no secret that Barcelona’s delicate finances have put the club in a bit of a bind.

Still, the Catalans have not given up their pursuit to find some margin with Financial Fair Play, which will allow them to make a host of moves that involve the registration of their current players while also scouring the market for promising opportunities.

Xavi’s request for an attacking midfielder, along with the untimely injury to Barca’s creative cog, Pedri, has intensified links with Tottenham Hotspur’s Giovani Lo Celso.

However, Barca are certain to encounter rivalry for the Argentine’s signature.

Napoli have entered the mix

But according to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Football Italia), Napoli are considering a move for Lo Celso with the intention of bolstering their midfield department.

Following Gabri Veiga’s major switch to Saudi Arabia, who was initially all set to join the Partenopei this summer, Napoli are eager to find alternatives as soon as possible.

Celta Vigo were expected to receive a sum of €36 million from Napoli, implying the Italians have cash in the bank to rival Barcelona and any other competitors for the acquisition of the Copa America winner.

Lo Celso, whose market value stands at €14 million, is considered to be a realistic replacement for the injured Pedri, which means Napoli’s interest will put the Blaugrana outfit on high alert.

Having missed out on Bernardo Silva, Xavi has asked the Catalans to make a final push to try and sign Lo Celso from Tottenham.

However, Barcelona may still stand a chance, given that the Serie A champions’ previous talks with Tottenham did not yield any significant results.

As such, Barça continue to monitor the player’s situation, with a loan move not yet ruled out.

Barcelona will likely face competition from Napoli as well as Real Betis, but the transfer depends on the Catalans’ success in decreasing the wage bill and ensuring the primary objectives of their transfer window are fulfilled.
