Barcelona and Chelsea have been involved in a tug of war several times in the market this summer and more often than not, the Catalans have come out on top.

Starting from convincing Ousmane Dembele to extend his contract at Camp Nou to interfering in the deal to sign Raphinha and roping the Brazilian in at the last minute, Barcelona have done extremely well in the market this summer.

Barça are most recently expected to triumph in the Jules Kounde deal, with the Frenchman widely expected to move to Camp Nou despite receiving a lucrative offer from Chelsea.

In light of recent events, there have been reports of discontent and animosity growing between the two parties, fueled further by Thomas Tuchel’s hints of potentially blocking Barça’s deal to sign Cesar Azpilicueta.

However, Toni Juanmarti has refuted those claims in his recent tweet, suggesting the two parties still maintain an excellent relationship with each other despite the recent dealings and Barcelona sabotaging three of Chelsea’s potential deals.

In fact, Juanmarti has offered an update on the Azpilicueta saga. Although the Spanish journalist admits the Spaniard’s transfer is taking longer than expected, he believes the deal should go smoothly in the end and the player will receive the green light from Chelsea to leave the club.

The potential arrival of Azpilicueta should complete Barcelona’s plans to reinforce the defensive unit, especially if the club can also patch out a deal with Sevilla over Jules Kounde in the days to come.

However, as per earlier reports, it is quite unlikely Barça will target a right-back such as Azpilicueta if they get their hands on Kounde. The Frenchman is capable of operating in wider roles and his versatility could nullify the need for a new face in defence.

Hence, it will be interesting to see how things transpire in the coming days as Barcelona look to complete their dealings in the market heading into the new season.
