A report by Telefoot relayed via SPORT, states that Paris Saint Germain are still attentive to Lionel Messi’s situation at Barcelona. The French giants have not yet given up the pursuit to sign the Argentine, but are waiting for clarity on a few renewals before making any moves.

With Messi’s current contract expiring in June, PSG now seems to be the only team that is majorly interested in his services. Manchester City, having come closest to signing him after last season, have now seemingly dropped their pursuit of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.

PSG’s interest in Lionel Messi is hardly a secret anymore. On multiple occasions now, the staff and players of the Parisiens have publicly extended their desires for Messi to come to France. Director Leonardo had also stated that: “Big players like Messi are always on PSG’s wishlist, but of course, it’s not the moment to talk or dream about it. We’re sitting at the big table, following it closely.”

His former teammate Neymar and even Argentine compatriots Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes have stated that they would like for Messi to join PSG. Lately however, Neymar’s contract situation has been up in the air, with the Brazilian having frozen talks about a renewal, resparking speculation about his own return to Barcelona.

It was later reported that he will end up renewing with the French outfit. His new contract will be a massive deal that runs on till 2026. PSG have reportedly been waiting on clarity on the Neymar and Kylian Mbappe fronts, in order to decide if they should turn their attention to Messi.

If either of them were to leave, the Parisiens would aim to bring the Argentine to Paris. However, Messi’s continuity with Barcelona seems likelier every passing day. The offers of new president Joan Laporta’s sporting project and the fate of the current domestic season will provide more clarity in that regard.
