Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia, Sergio Aguero, and Dani Alves do not share much in common except being players Barcelona signed for free in 2021. These set the base for how the club’s transfers rumours were going to be shaped for the near future.

Joan Laporta did not help their case much either when he admitted that Barça will try to sign players involving as little transfer fees as possible.

Taking advantage of the same, El Nacional have linked Bayern Munich’s Corentin Tolisso to Barcelona for the summer. The Frenchman’s contract expires in June 2022, and he has been rumoured with an exit on a Bosman transfer.

Real Madrid are heavily linked with Tolisso, but the latest report states that Xavi has inquired him. The World Cup winner cannot start negotiations with any club before January 2022, and is ready to listen to Barcelona’s offer.

Bayern have consistently deployed a 4-2-3-1 under Julian Naggelsmann, with Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in the double pivot. Tolisso has been pushed as the fourth-choice midfielder behind those two and Marcel Sabitzer and is unwilling to extend his contract in search of a starting role.

This season, he’s played seven games in the league, assisting once while averaging a mere one chance created per game. His defensive abilities, however, make him an interesting asset for a lot of top teams.

On the contrary, his fit at either Barcelona or Madrid is perplexing. The Clasico clubs boast of a supremely talented midfield at their disposal.

The Blaugranas have Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Riqui Puig, and La Masia stars Gavi and Nico in the same position as Tolisso. The capital outfit, meanwhile, have inarguably one of the best midfield trios of all time in Toni Kroos, Casemiro, and Luka Modric. All this while having Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga on the bench.

While it would be best to take this with a pinch of salt, Barcelona are oh-so-close to signing Ferran Torres from Manchester City for €55 million plus variables.
