Former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has expressed that although Lionel Messi’s return would be amazing, forcing the transfer will have a negative effect. He also mentioned the move is inevitable as both parties want it to happen.

“It would be amazing for Leo Messi to return to Barça, but forcing situations too much I feel can be negative. I would let Messi’s return happen naturally, in the end, it will happen because I think both parties want it to happen,” said the former defender in an interview with journalist Gerard Romero.

Messi’s future has been the talk of the town of late. The Argentina captain sees his current PSG deal run out at the end of the season and although the Ligue 1 champions are looking to hand him an extension, things have taken turn for the worse.

Recent developments regarding Messi’s future indicate that his renewal with the French champions is in limbo due to financial concerns. As reported before, PSG have asked the 35-year-old to lower his wages in order to comply with the Financial Fair Play.

The forward, however, is not willing to take that step. On top of that, he is getting second thoughts over PSG’s performances while his relationship with the fans is deteriorating as well.

All this indicates a possible return to Barcelona, but as Pique mentions, the parties involved must let it happen naturally as forcing into the transfer would mean additional trouble for Barcelona.

It must be remembered that Barcelona are already in contact with Messi’s representatives and while Joan Laporta is doing everything in power, the Barcelona president will not risk the position of the club in order to turn the dream into reality.

For now, both the player and the management are studying the implications of the transfer and if everything is on track, Messi will once again don the Blaugrana colours.
