Later on tonight, Barcelona will continue their quest to regain some ground in a very difficult title race. The current league leaders are still far away from the Catalans but nothing is lost just yet. This evening, Elche represent another three points that have to be taken and Ronald Koeman, for one, is optimistic.

According to the papers this morning, the Dutchman still believes the team can turn things around. Mundo Deportivo claim the coach has asked his veteran players to step up in this time of need.

In his mind, both the league and Copa del Rey are still within their grasp and they should fight for it. Of course, it won’t exactly be an easy task but nothing in this sport it. This is where the senior players come in and take the wheel.

SPORT are on the same page as they’re also highlighting Koeman’s fighting spirit. They say he’s asking the captains to take over and lead their troops to a better second half of the season.

The Dutchman has sent a clear message to the locker room, saying ‘we can‘ and trying to lift their spirits. Now it will be up to the players to react and prove that nothing is lost just yet.

But it all starts with Elche later on tonight and Barcelona need to get back to winning ways as soon as possible. Once again, the game will be played at the Camp Nou, and while without the fans that’s not as big of a boost as it would usually be, they still have to take advantage of it.

One step at a time. Maybe there is still hope and we should believe as well.
