A lot is happening at Barcelona at the moment so the papers have their hands full. Even though it’s the grand finale of the January transfer market, for once, signings are not the focus of the media. But rather, they are dealing with two big and older arrivals.
Mundo Deportivo are full of praise for none other than Ronald Koeman this morning. The Dutchman graces their cover as they aim to list some of his accomplishments so far.
The outlet states it was Koeman who has managed to re-ignite the spark in Lionel Messi, reinvigorate the veterans of the club and also incorporate the youngsters and let them shine with a big role in the squad. And he has done that in this short span of time as Barcelona coach.
But even off the pitch, Koeman has been very local when defending the club and this is something the Catalans have missed sorely over the years.
SPORT, on the other hand, are going with something slightly different today. For them, Frenkie de Jong is still the star of the show.
Lately, we’ve been seeing the very best version of the young midfielder; one that is very involved in all phases of Barcelona’s attack. Interestingly, once again, it’s Koeman who should be praised for this as well.
After all, it was after his experimentation that De Jong has found his true self at the Camp Nou and is now thriving within this system.
SPORT even say we’re seeing a version of the player that has already surpassed his Ajax self from some years ago.
