After the preliminary 100-man list, the second round of voting will now commence as the number of names has been trimmed down to 80. And in this stage, three Barcelona players will feature once again, namely Pedri Gonzalez, Ilaix Moriba and Eric Garcia.

Spanish defender Eric Garcia was at the heart of Spain’s defense during their run to the semifinals and acted largely as an assured presence at the back. However, ahead of him in the midfield was La Roja’s standout youngster in Pedri Gonzalez, who enjoyed an outstanding campaign and was named in the team of the tournament and awarded the accolade of ‘Young Player of the Tournament’.

Alongside Pedri and Eric Garcia, another Barcelona youngster in Ilaix Moriba has also made the 80-man shortlist for the award given by Italian publication Tuttosport. Other major names in the running for the Golden Boy include Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Dortmund;’s Jude Bellingham, Ajax’s Ryan Gravenberch, Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga and many more.

The online survey to trim names further from the top 80 has already begun and will last a month. However, those votes carry no actual influence on the decisions of journalists who will ultimately decide the winner. For them, the voting opens in the fall.

For the final prize, Pedri remains the favourite. Having garnered accolades at the Euros, he has been the talk of the town and is also off to the Olympics in Tokyo, where he can further make an impression.
