Mundo Deportivo have officially confirmed that Barcelona and Spain midfielder Sergio Busquets has tested positive for COVID-19. He then proceeded to leave the Spanish training camp in a medicalised vehicle and will proceed to isolate at home for at least 10 days.

Following the quarantine period, he then has to provide a negative PCR test before returning to the group. All the players, staff and those in contact with Busquets have been isolated, the RFEF (Spanish Football Federation) stated, in accordance with the predetermined guidelines provided by the Health Ministry.

Spain were supposed to play their second and final friendly game against Lithuania on Tuesday, before getting their Euros campaign underway against Sweden. The friendly will go ahead as scheduled, but La Roja will be sending out their U21 side to partake in the fixture.

All the players will now continue to isolate but personalized training routines have been outlined by the staff, which they will continue to practice ahead of the all important European Championships. With spectators slowly returning to stadiums as well, the RFEF promised to refund all tickets at request for the friendly against Lithuania.

Busquets is reportedly doing fine, as his case seems to be asymptomatic. The captain of the national side is eager to get past the setback and rejoin the group as soon as possible.

Busquets enjoyed a great campaign for Barcelona in 2020-21 and will be hoping to take his form from 2021 into the upcoming competition. More updates on the veteran midfielder’s recovery will follow in the coming days.
