Official: Barcelona star Sergio Aguero ruled out for three months
In what will come as a devastating blow for Barcelona, star striker Sergio Aguero has been ruled out of action for at least the next three months, the club confirmed on their official website.
Aguero signed for Barcelona in the summer on a free transfer after his contract with Manchester City had run out. However, the Argentine was carrying a calf injury when he arrived and had to wait till October to make his debut.
Featuring against Real Madrid in last month’s El Clasico, the 33-year-old scored his first goal in the game. He then made his first start against Rayo Vallecano but was unable to add to his tally.
This past weekend, Aguero started in the home game against Deportivo Alaves but had to be withdrawn late in the first half as he collapsed onto the pitch with breathing problems. The Argentine superstar was immediately taken to the hospital and tests confirmed that he had cardiac arrhythmia.
The ex-Manchester City was kept under observation at the hospital as further tests were conducted. The club have now confirmed that his treatment has begun, due to which he will be unavailable for the next three months.
“The first team player Sergio Agüero has been subjected to a diagnostic and therapeutic process by Dr.Josep Brugada. He is unavailable for selection and during the next three months the effectiveness of treatment will be evaluated in order to determine his recovery process,” the official statement by the club read.
Interim manager Sergi Barjuan, during his pre-match presser ahead of the Dynamo Kyiv clash, claimed that he had spoken to Aguero, insisting that the striker was calm over the situation.
