No chance of swap deal between Barcelona and Juventus for Pjanic, Fabrizio Romano confirms

Miralem Pjanic’s departure from Barcelona seems straightforward on the face of it. Considering the circumstances under which the deal was made, where Arthur Melo was shipped off to Italy and the Bosnian coming the other way, it seemed destined to fail.

The immense scrutiny was ultimately well justified, as the 31-year old has contributed next to nothing ever since he arrived in Catalonia. A shady operation to cover up dodgy finances ended up translating as such on the pitch, as the midfielder has neither gotten much game time nor done much with the sparse minutes he has gotten.

Therefore, the decision to sell Pjanic looks an easy one given that Barcelona are under immense financial pressure, with an unerring need to offload players, recoup funds and decrease their wage bill. There has been speculation aplenty regarding the Bosnian’s next destination, with a move back to Juventus being reported as part of another swap deal with Aaron Ramsey arriving in exchange.

However, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has shut down the rumours, stating that there is no chance of such a deal materializing at the moment. Which only proves that the Pjanic exit operation is easier said than done.

The Italian journalist also states that Barcelona are not even considering Aaron Ramsey to arrive as part of the swap since he commands a high salary, and anything that does not reduce the financial load at the moment is counterproductive.

While Barcelona are keen on selling the Bosnian midfielder and pushing for it to happen, Pjanic has not accepted parting ways by mutual agreement, creating another roadblock for the Catalans.
