While Bernardo Silva was the ultimate pipedream for Barcelona and Xavi, the hefty price tag attached to him deterred the Catalans from pursuing his signature.

In spite of the move failing to come to fruition, talks of Xavi still prioritizing a creative attacking midfielder continue to persist.

One of the names capable of filling that void is Tottenham Hotspur and Argentina star Giovani Lo Celso.

Barcelona are monitoring the situation

Now, Matteo Moretto has come out to provide a fresh update regarding the player’s situation and where Barcelona stands in his race.

As per the Italian journalist, there will be a meeting between Tottenham and Lo Celso to determine the player’s future, which will be held next Monday or Tuesday.

At the moment, a loan move is not ruled out, despite reports earlier today saying otherwise.

Real Betis is a concrete option for the 27-year-old. with the midfielder previously plying his trade for the Verdiblancos.

Lo Celso, whose market value stands at €14 million, initially joined the north London outfit on a loan move from Real Betis in the summer of 2019, before the move was made permanent.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are monitoring the situation as the club’s fickle financial situation compels them to tread carefully in the market.

Barcelona are expected to face competition from the Spanish side, but before making any moves for the Copa America winner, lowering the wage bill and securing the registrations of Marcos Alonso, Inaki Pena, Inigo Martinez and the incoming Joao Cancelo will be essential.
