With Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic mooted to join Sharjah FC, the Bosnian international confirmed the move himself on social media by posting a picture of him on a flight to the Middle East.

The former Juventus man is claimed be really looking forward to heading to the Middle East as the perfect destination to further his career.

So much so that it has been reported by RAC1 that the 32-year-old decided to waive off the money owed to him by Barcelona until the end of his deal in 2024.

While Xavi’s side will terminate his current contract, the club will not pay him a penny.

It goes without saying that such a revelation confirms the speculation about how keen Pjanic was about joining Sharjah FC. But from a Barca perspective, it also aids the club financially in a significant fashion.

For starters, the player’s decision to walk away from the Spotify Camp Nou without demanding the amount he has owed saves a lot of money for the club.

This, combined with the fact that the La Liga side will no longer have to pay his wages could allow them to extend Gavi’s contract and register him as a first-team member with La Liga.

Perhaps the only downside remains that Pjanic’s exit means the club lose an able understudy to the evergreen Sergio Busquets.

Especially considering how Xavi was an admirer of the ex-Roma hero’s game, it seemed at one point that the once-out-of-favour star could redeem his career at the club this season.

However, Pjanic’s imminent departure is ultimately good news for all parties involved, with the player getting his desired move, Barcelona keeping their purse strings tightened and Sharjah FC adding a decorated midfielder within their ranks.
