Manchester United and PSG set to battle it out for Barcelona superstar

According to a report published by Daily Express, Barcelona are ready to let go of Antoine Griezmann on a budget price this summer, as Manchester United and PSG loom for his services.

The Frenchman arrived at the club in 2019 after winning the prestigious World Cup for a massive €120 million, paid in the form of his release clause. However, as a player who was used to playing as a second striker at Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone, Griezmann lacked a clear position at Barcelona, which was the beginning of all the problems.

Deployed on the left-wing by Ernesto Valverde in an attempt to fit him alongside Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, Griezmann did not make a name for himself in the first season at the club. However, once Ronald Koeman came to the helm, he was favoured a lot more and soon got comfortable on the wings in the 4-3-3.

Even though he is clearly fitting into the setup slowly, but surely, it seems Barcelona’s dire financial situation will come in key here, and might force the club to sell him. After buying him for that whopping sum, the report states that they might be ready to let him leave for no more than €50 odd million. Manchester United and PSG are the two interested parties as it stands.

Griezmann was previously heavily linked to United in the summer of 2017, but a move failed to come to completion. That said, he would fit in seamlessly with the Red Devils in their 4-2-3-1, but will have to fight with Bruno Fernandes for a place as the no. 10.

That tussle will be a lot easier at PSG, where Neymar, Angel di Maria, Draxler, Marco Veratti, and others have filled in as the attacking midfielders often. Griezmann could come in and make that spot his own with ease, and playing alongside his compatriots might help him resurrect his club career.
