Barcelona’s eye for talent has helped them recruit a number of promising players over the years.

With their eyes peeled for more rising young stars on the ascendancy, the Catalan giants were eagerly inclined toward the burgeoning South American talents, Claudio Echeverri and Savinho.

However, as it turns out, both targets have slipped out of Barça’s clutches as strained finances continue to limit the club’s activity in the transfer market.

Manchester City rain on Barcelona’s parade

Indeed, as per TV3, Manchester City have snatched away two players on Barcelona’s radar: Echeverri and Savinho.

Following an incredible Under-17 World Cup campaign in Indonesia, Echeverri had been linked intensively with the Catalans.

Given that he had professed his admiration for the club and Barcelona attempted to make advances, the possibility of a signing could not be ruled out.

Even so, after overcoming Barcelona and other suitors in the chase for the teenage sensation, Manchester City and River Plate reached a deal for the signing of Echeverri, activating his €25 million release clause.

As per recent information, Echeverri will join Manchester City in January and remain on loan at River Plate until the summer before permanently relocating to England.

Savinho, too, likely to be Man City-bound

Meanwhile, Girona’s tricky winger, Savinho, was another one of Barcelona’s objectives for the summer of 2024, with a desire to bolster the left-wing position.

However, Manchester City is internally debating signing him and bringing him in for the upcoming season.

The 19-year-old attacker is presently on loan from Troyes, a team controlled by the City Football Group, which also owns Manchester City.

As such, it is likely that the Cityzens will face limited obstructions in their pursuit of the Brazilian winger next summer.
