A lot has been said about Lionel Messi’s potential return to Barcelona. Joan Laporta has uttered his desire, and Robert Lewandowski has said that he ‘hopes to play’ with the Argentine, but as it turns out, the forward, himself, is unaware of what life holds for him.

Messi, who recently starred in a solo Luis Vuitton campaign, admitted that he is not sure what comes next, adding that he is leaving everything to the almighty.

“I don’t know what’s next… what my future holds,” said the current Paris-Saint Germain attacker during an ad campaign for Louis Vuitton while talking about his future.

“I like to imagine, to think about things that might happen, but I really don’t know what my future will be. Whatever God wants it to be, it will be,” he added.

Messi, 35, is set to become a free agent in the summer and although PSG have an option of extending his deal to another year, nothing has been made official yet.

It must be remembered that PSG’s offer for Messi has been on the table before the beginning of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Argentina captain, however, decided to take his time before making a decision.

Over the last few weeks, however, Messi’s relationship with PSG fans has diminished to the extent that he was booed by the club fans. Even last year, when PSG were beaten by Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, the whole Parc des Princes whistled him.

This year, he was jeered following the defeats against Lyon and Rennes which might be the reason enough for him to think of an exit. And if that is the case, Barcelona remain the most likely destination for him to end up at.

For the moment, the entire Barcelona dressing room is crazy about his return and even the fans are on the same page. Once the Blaugrana manage to get their finances back on track, Messi’s arrival could become a realistic possibility.
