Standing at 5’7″, football fans, and especially Barcelona fans look at Lionel Messi like a god. Over the years, he has saved the club countless times, all while accumulating four Champions League titles, ten La Liga titles, seven Copa del Reys on the club level.

However, it is his individual performances and feats that go unmatched, headlined by six Ballon d’Ors and Golden Boots each, eight Pichichi trophies, and so much more. Apart from these, his greatness can be judged simply by what his rivals say about him.

Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was asked about Messi during an interview with Goal, and he replied, “Messi is on a completely different level, he has been the best for many years, and is the an exceptional player in this era of the sport.”

Bounou’s respect for the Argentine is well-documented, in fact. The duo came head-to-head while the Moroccan was playing for Girona, and exchanged jerseys after Barcelona’s 2-0 win in the derby at the Montilivi stadium.

He later spoke to beIN sport talking about that exchange saying, “He had promised me last season that we would exchange jerseys this season.”

Facing Barcelona six times, Bounou has lost only three times, drawing on two occasions, and even coming up victorious once (Sevilla 2-0, CDR 20/21 semis first leg). His record against Messi, too, is pretty impressive, conceding just four goals in six appearances, which is more than what most goalkeepers can claim.

He is not the first elite goalkeeper to speak about the greatness of the Argentine. La Liga’s player of the season Jan Oblak is a massive fan as well, and has praised him on multiple occasions in the past, saying that, “Messi is still the best player in the world.”
