With only three days left before Barcelona take on Real Madrid in the first El Clasico of the season, they have been dealt with yet another fitness concern.

Close to the 75th-minute mark, star forward Joao Felix had to be withdrawn by manager Xavi Hernandez following a potential injury for the Portuguese international.

The 23-year-old forward, on loan from Atletico Madrid, has been a top performer for Barça this season, notably chipping in with three goals and three assists across all competitions.

A regular starter in the lineup, Felix has made a solid impression in his short stint at Barcelona, silencing those who doubted him.

Having started against Shakhtar Donetsk, the former SL Benfica wonderkid gave a good account of himself at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

However, around the 75th minute, he went down on the pitch with a problem, forcing Xavi to take him off and send on last weekend’s hero, Marc Guiu onto the pitch.

If Felix’s fitness concern is a serious one, his potential absence will be a huge one for the Catalans, especially given that they are already without a host of important players to face Real Madrid.

As things stand, Sergi Roberto, Jules Kounde, and Pedri are all set to miss the first El Clasico of the season while Frenkie de Jong also appears likely to be ruled out.

There is some hope regarding Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, and it now remains to be seen what the situation is like with Joao Felix.

Toni Juanmarti of SPORT is speculating that Joao Felix’s case is only of a bad bruise, one which could ease out in a day or two. However, a clearer picture should emerge when Xavi talks to the media after the game.
