Barcelona’s narrow 1-0 win over Osasuna last night was overshadowed by the news of Mateu Alemany’s exit.

The club confirmed on Tuesday that the sporting director has decided to leave the club in search of a professional project at Aston Villa. Despite having a contract until 2024, Alemany will leave Camp Nou on June 30, 2023.

Shortly after Alemany’s exit, Mundo Deportivo has now come up with an update on the future of another senior director in Jordi Cruyff. The Spanish publication suggests even Cruyff could leave the club before the start of the new season.

As per the report, Cruyff will take the month of May to evaluate his future, deciding whether or not he will remain at the club.

Cruyff has been linked with an exit from Barcelona this summer, amid reports of growing tension between him and coach Xavi Hernandez. It notably reached a breaking point when the Barcelona coach overlooked Cruyff’s desire to sign former Barça starlet Xavi Simons.

Cruyff’s potential exit could be a blow for Barcelona, especially with Alemany also leaving. The two had received plaudits for engineering Barcelona’s excellent 2022 transfer window, as they roped in the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Raphinha, among others.

Their greatest achievement was to lure these players despite the club’s poor economic and sporting prospects. Thanks to them, the club are now in a position to secure their first league title since 2019.

But as the two directors face the prospect of an exit, Barcelona may have to endure a major executive shakeup. The ones in contention to replace Alemany as the sporting directors are Jesus Angoy and Antonio Cordon reports ESPN.

The departure of Cruyff could further force the Catalans to find another replacement. Given the importance of the coming summer, the club cannot afford to put a foot wrong.
