Barcelona and Inter Milan were both part of the 12 teams that were invited to the European Super League a few weeks back. Neither club could reject the offer given their financial setbacks caused by poor scouting, expensive transfers, and underwhelming performances in the Champions League.
This is a large reason why the summer transfer window is very crucial for both teams. Not only do they need to reinforce their squad with new signings, they also have to sell assets in order to raise money from player sales.
Achraf Hakimi is one of the players that Inter could sell, with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea very interested in his services. Barcelona’s Emerson Royal could come into the frame for the Serie A champs as a possible replacement, as reported by SPORT.
Barcelona completed the signing of Emerson in the first week of June, buying his rights from Real Betis for €9 million. His future at the club, however, is uncertain, with his transfer rumoured to be related to the economic aspect of the club instead of the sporting department.
Emerson’s agent, Frederic Pena, is said to be already in negotiations with the Italian outfit, visiting their headquarters in the fashion capital. If the signing does go through, Betis would receive 20% from the sale, as mentioned in the contract.
It has been a few topsy-turvy weeks for Emerson, who said it was a dream to play for Barcelona, after being selected for the World Cup qualifiers for the Brazilian national team. At Barça, however, he would have to fight off Sergino Dest, and potentially Sergi Roberto for the starting role. As it stands, nobody knows where, and if Roberto is headed out, but he could certainly be among the players the Catalan giant offload as surplus.
