Today morning, Barcelona provided an official update regarding the injuries to Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo. The duo picked up knocks to their left and right thighs, respectively, on the first day of the international break, and have landed into potentially serious trouble.
In fact, according to Javi Miguel, Araujo is set to miss nearly 6-7 weeks of football due to his injury. The progress of the same will determine his recovery, but missing nearly two months of football in the toughest part of the season comes as a huge blow for Barça.
If he is, indeed, ruled out for the next month and a half, Araujo will miss the games against Inter Milan – both home and away, Real Madrid, Villarreal, Athletic Club, and Bayern Munich’s return fixture at the Camp Nou.
While Barcelona have more than capable backups in the form of Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen, and Gerard Pique, the Uruguayan is popularly hailed as Barcelona’s best defender.
Not to forget, this will serve as a huge concern for the defender himself. The World Cup commences on 20th November, and he could potentially be dropped from Uruguay’s travelling squad if he does not recover in time.
As for Kounde, there is still optimism around his injury. Initially, it was believed he would be out for nearly a month. As it stands, the report suggests that the Frenchman’s return for El Clasico, on 16th October, is still on the cards.
These are the first of the injury updates we have received following their official announcements, and we will likely see more of the same in the coming days.
