The clock struck 12:15 am in Barcelona as reports of Ronald Koeman’s inevitable departure flooded football newspapers following a 1-0 loss against Rayo Vallecano today.

Minutes after that, it was made official by the club through a statement on their website. Amidst all of this, though, one question that has been burning into the minds of fans is, “Who will replace him?”

Well, according to Gerard Romero, Xavi is the next in line to replace the Dutchman. That report has been made stronger by the ever-reliable Albert Roge, who has reported that the Spaniard will indeed be the next Barcelona coach.

After 2 years at the helm for Al Sadd, Xavi has won seven titles, including the Emir Cup on Friday.

He’s been quite open about his dream to coach Barcelona, stating, “I would be open to any and all offers.”

And while Joan Laporta was not too keen on bringing in Xavi before he had coached in Europe, it seems he’s had to pull the trigger now.

With Deportivo Alaves at home on the weekend, Barcelona have to make a decision quickly. The likes of Marcelo Gallardo, Andrea Pirlo, Antonio Conte, and of course, fan-choice Erik ten Hag had been rumoured to take over, but it looks Xavi has beaten them all to the throne.
