Barcelona moved to the top of the La Liga standings after they secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Elche at Spotify Camp Nou on Saturday afternoon.

The Blaugrana were aiming to produce a strong reaction after the midweek defeat to Bayern Munich, which is exactly what they did. After the visitors had a player get sent off early in the game, Robert Lewandowski put Barça ahead in the 34th minute.

A little over five minutes later, Memphis Depay made it 2-0 to further Barcelona’s hold on the game before Lewandowski added a third early in the second half to kill the contest and secure three points for his team.

With the result, Barcelona have played 23 La Liga games against Elche without defeat (W16 D7) at Spotify Camp Nou – the most home games the Blaugrana have gone in the top flight without losing.

The 3-0 win also meant that Barcelona have won five consecutive La Liga games with a 3+ goal margin for the first time since 2010/11. Xavi’s Barça have also equalled the club’s all-time record of most consecutive La Liga wins with a 3+ goal margin.

The record was set by Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering Barcelona side in 2010, with five wins on the bounce. The same team would go on to repeat the feat in 2011. And now Xavi’s brigade have equalled the record.

Lewandowski was once again the chief protagonist in attack for Barcelona, as he scored another brace for Barcelona. With his double, the Poland captain became the first player in Barça’s history to score 3 Liga braces after turning 34.

In addition, Lewandowski is also one of only two players to have 2 G+A contributions in four different matches in the top five European leagues this season – the other being Lionel Messi.

Another player who impressed heavily on the afternoon was Alejandro Balde, with Xavi praising the teenager after the game.

The 18-year-old assisted Lewandowski’s first goal and Depay’s strike on Saturday. With that, Balde became the joint top assist provider in La Liga this season (3).

In addition to that, Balde is the only player under the age of 19 to give three assists in the top five leagues in Europe in the ongoing campaign.
