Chelsea open doors for striker to join Barcelona

Barcelona’s struggles in front of goal were once again brought to the limelight in the Champions League clash against Benfica yesterday. Despite being the dominant side, the Catalans could not bury any of the chances that they created.
The worries in the forward line are getting tense. Tuesday’s game was just a warning of the urgency with which the hole needs to be plugged. Given the situation, Joan Laporta is keeping an active eye on the market to find a strong centre-forward.
One of the names on the list is that of Timo Werner. The German striker moved to the Premier League after a successful stint in the Bundesliga in 2020. However, his time with Chelsea has been far from a success.
Within a year, Werner finds himself a second choice to an in-form Romelu Lukaku. The chances of him finding a starting role in Stamford Bridge are diminishing with every passing day, and the player would not oppose a move away from London in the winter market.
According to reports from El Nacional, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has agreed to negotiate the striker departure in the winter. This comes as big news to Barcelona’s offices, for the 25-year-old could be an economic and realistic target.
Xavi feels that Werner would be the perfect solution to the problems in the goalscoring department at Barcelona. Considering this, Laporta is looking to offer the player a loan deal with an option to buy in June.
It remains to be seen if Abramovich is convinced by the Catalans’ offer. It would be a perfect move for Chelsea, Barcelona and Timo Werner.
