Barcelona’s rivals Real Madrid could set off a chain reaction in the upcoming January transfer window, as they aim to sign Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger as a free agent, as relayed by Fichajes.

If the German centre-back ends up moving to the Spanish capital, Chelsea will aim to replace him by reigniting their pursuit of Sevilla starlet Jules Kounde. The reigning European champions have been on his tail for a while and came close to reaching an agreement with him in the summer.

Barcelona’s name has constantly emerged in reports about potential suitors for Kounde, but given their precarious financial position, they are in a spot where they cannot make a competitive offer for him.

The Blaugrana defence needs to be shored up massively, but Chelsea have an abundance of resources to pursue the young Frenchman, who Thomas Tuchel supposedly admires a lot.

In the report, it is stated that the Kounde transfer could cost around 65 to 70 million euros. A fee like that is well beyond Barcelona’s means at the moment, who also have their eye on numerous other targets to bolster their squad.

A major question in the Catalans’ camp is whether to allocate whatever limited money they have towards the attack or defence.

They are linked to names like Karim Adeyemi to boost their striking options. The German striker would be a much more reasonable target compared to Kounde due to his lower price tag.

Kounde would have been a fantastic signing for Barcelona but that is next to an impossible dream at the moment.
