A month ago, Barcelona were regarded as the undisputed favourites in the race to sign Raphinha. The player himself was keen on a move to Catalonia, having reportedly agreed to personal terms back in March.

However, Barcelona have met several financial roadblocks in their attempts to sign Raphinha. It has ultimately encouraged other clubs to join the race, with Arsenal and Chelsea being the latest clubs to do so, reports Telegraph.

Arsenal had already come up with a bid last week, in order to test the waters at Elland Road. But the bid was immediately rejected by the Whites, who are said to be holding out for a fee of around £65 million.

This week, it appears Chelsea have joined the race to sign Raphinha, with Thomas Tuchel seriously considering a bid for the Brazilian international.

With Romelu Lukaku on the verge of sealing a return to Inter Milan and speculations brewing over the futures of Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, Chelsea are eyeing a sensational double swoop for Raheem Sterling and Raphinha this summer.

Given that they are expected to fork out around £50 million, the Blues are likely to table a similar offer to Leeds United for Raphinha.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are a mere bystander in this transfer saga as Leeds United’s lofty valuation is considered too expensive for the club, even if the Catalans successfully sanction the €75 million exit of Frenkie de Jong this week.

Raphinha’s move to either Chelsea or Arsenal could serve as a major blow for Xavi’s hopes of finding an able replacement for Ousmane Dembele on the right flank.

With a move for Angel Di Maria also out of the question, it will be interesting to see how the club plan to strengthen the right flank, especially if Raphinha ends up moving elsewhere.
