Barcelona’s chief revenue officer to take over the executive role – report
Ferran Reverter’s resignation as club CEO caught everyone by surprise. In an official announcement, Barcelona told that he left due to personal reasons, but sources have suggested that they had their differences with president Joan Laporta.
Laporta now begins his hunt for a new CEO, and Mateu Alemany was the first member considered. The football director turned down the opportunity and was eventually discarded as an option.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, the president is now looking for an individual who is an expert in economics to take over the Chief Executive role.
Further, SPORT reports that Alex Barbany, the club’s Chief Revenue Officer is gaining numbers to replace Reverter as the new CEO. Barbany was an integral part of Laporta’s presidential candidacy and was also largely considered for the CEO position even before Reverter’s arrival.
The exact reason for Reverter’s resignation is unknown, but the club’s deal with Spotify is said to be one of the primary reasons for the Spaniard’s exit. However, the president and current CEO did not share similar views on the direction the club should take.
Reverter was a firm believer in the theory that Barcelona needed to partially privatize its ownership to stay competitive. Meanwhile, Laporta did not want to alter the fundamental principles of the club and its democratic operations.
With Barbany being part of Laporta’s candidacy campaign, it is expected that they will share a common vision for the club – without any clashes in ideologies.
