Oscar Mingueza has fast evolved into an integral part of the Barcelona squad with his talent, versatility, and immaculate work ethic. Since his debut at the beginning of the 2020-21 season, Mingueza has enjoyed a remarkable rise to prominence.

Able to play in the centre of defense or on the right, he has proven to be a very reliable presence at the back, displaying most, if not all the qualities looked for in a La Masia graduate.

After renewing his contract with Barcelona a little over four months ago, Mingueza’s official promotion to the first team was only a matter of time. Unfortunately, the complications within the club over the past few weeks due to their dire financial condition have hampered any such dealings.

Amid the failure to register new signings, Leo Messi’s exit and trying to negotiate salary cuts and offload players to reduce economic load, the club has not had time to think about any promotions or renewals.

Journalist Gerard Romero, however, has finally stated that now Barcelona are focusing on all these dealings, with Mingueza’s first-team registration on the list of tasks that the club is working on immediately.

If he is to return from his injury on Sunday, he will play against Getafe with his current number 28 shirt. However, Barcelona aim to resolve his promotion by Tuesday, following which he will be issued a first-team number.

Romero also states that there is no doubt about Mingueza within the club and he has the complete trust of Ronald Koeman.
