Barcelona winger target will leave German club in the summer, confirms director

Barcelona have been exploring the free agency since Joan Laporta and co. took over administrative control of the club in 2021.
They signed Eric Garcia, Sergio Aguero, and Memphis Depay during their first window in charge, and continued that trend by acquiring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Marcos Alonso, and Hector Bellerin across the next two windows.
The trend is expected to continue until Barça can get their finances sorted for good. As such, the Catalans have kept a fair few targets on their agenda for the summer window, including a certain Marcus Thuram.
The Frenchman has 11 goals and three assists in the Bundesliga this season across 20 games. His contract ends in the summer, and is yet to sign a contract extension with Borussia Monchengladbach.
Gladbach’s director, Roland Virkus, confirmed that Thuram will more than likely leave them in the summer, looking to sign for a ‘bigger’ club.
“We have to accept that there are bigger clubs where Marcus might go,” he said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
Thuram is a man in-demand, with Chelsea also strongly linked to him. However, the English club have since signed Mykhailo Mudryk for nearly €100 million, and have also confirmed a deal for Christopher Nkunku.
He is not the only Bundesliga star Barça are keeping tabs on, though. Eintracht Frankfurt duo Evan Ndicka and Daichi Kamada are also on their radar, while Angel di Maria has also reappeared with rumours.
All these players are set to become free agents in the summer, and could be signed on a Bosman deal. However, five months away from the transfer market, anything could happen, including contract renewals.
