Barcelona will continue fishing in the free transfer market again next summer amidst their financial woes. And, according to SPORT, Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram is a player that the La Liga leaders are closely following.

The 25-year-old has been one of the best-performing forwards in Bundesliga in recent times even though he has had injury problems along the way.

In the ongoing campaign, Thuram has netted 13 goals and set up four more from 20 matches across all competitions. He was also part of the France national team that finished as the runners-up at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Thuram’s current contract with Gladbach stands to expire at the end of the season and he is unlikely to sign a new contract with the German outfit.

It has alerted a host of top clubs across Europe, who are now lining up to sign him as a free agent, including Barcelona.

The Blaugrana are already working on strengthening their frontline for next season, with Brazilian teenager Vitor Roque emerging as a top target. There have also been links to Yannick Carrasco of Atletico Madrid as well.

With Ansu Fati’s future coming under scrutiny of late as well, there could be room for the Catalans to rope in a new forward like Thuram, who will be available for free and provide cover in all three positions across the frontline.

But a whole host of clubs like Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Sevilla are also following Thuram.

So, signing him could be difficult for the Blaugrana, as they might not be in a position to offer the most lucrative contract.

Thuram spent a couple of years at Barcelona’s La Masia setup when his father, Lilian Thuram, played for the club in the 2000s. Whether he returns to Catalonia for a stint with the first team will be interesting to see.
