Barcelona weighing up summer move for soon-to-be-free Liverpool star – report

A recent report from Diario SPORT has offered an update on Barcelona’s quest to sign free agents in the summer of 2023.

With no sponsorship deals or economic levers to rely upon, Barça will have to dig deep into the market in their attempt to add more quality to the table. With that in mind, the club’s first priority is to target a series of free agents that can offer excellent quality to the team.

Barcelona are prioritising the signing of a new midfielder, in particular, and one of the players targeted by the Catalans is Naby Keita.

The Liverpool star is regarded as one of the most talented players in Africa. However, since joining the Reds from RB Leipzig, the midfielder has not been able to fulfil his true potential, often struggling with injuries and a lack of form.

Barcelona, though, are not deterred by Keita’s injury woes and are targeting a Bosman move for the former RB Leipzig superstar next summer.

The Catalans are aware of the 27-year-old’s technical quality and his ability to operate around the half-spaces. His quick feet, coupled with his positional sense could make him an excellent alternative for the likes of Gavi and Pedri in the interior midfield positions.

Not to mention, Keita offers vast experience at the highest level of football, having featured in a combined total of almost 200 matches during his time at Liverpool and Leipzig.

With his contract at Anfield at the ned of the season, Keita can be an appealing target for Barcelona in 2023. The club, though, are open to other options in the market, including N’Golo Kante, Youri Tielemans and even Ilkay Gundogan.

All of these players have appeared more consistent than Keita in recent years and could be an interesting target for Barcelona, in their quest to reinforce their options in the middle of the park.
