Even though the transfer window is over, Barcelona’s efforts to scout long-term talented prospects for the club is going strong, with new sporting director Deco constantly on the lookout for reinforcements.

The approach to sign and develop youngsters for Xavi’s project is going strong – and of late, the Catalans have been linked to two very highly-rated talents: RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and now, Liverpool Montevideo’s Fabricio Diaz.

With the club desperately in need of a long-term defensive midfielder, Diaz could be a highly valuable option having already made 100 senior appearances at the age of 20.

Deco to make the final call on Diaz

According to Adrian Sanchez, Deco is exploring Diaz’s signing and will soon decide on whether he is a viable option.

Barcelona are looking to incorporate him in January, as it was previously reported that he may be available for around 9 million euros.

Oriol Romeu seems to be settling in very well in the pivot position, but given that he is 32, it would be wise to start seeing beyond his tenure and get someone in that can be an understudy to him.

Diaz has previously stated that it is a dream just to have Barcelona interested in him, and that his agent will find the best possible move for him when the time comes.

Already the captain of his club, Diaz can play anywhere in the midfield, but primarily plays as part of a double pivot.

If he arrives at Barcelona, he could also act a wonderful defensive cover for Frenkie de Jong, just as Romeu has done, to liberate the Dutchman going forward.
