Since Deco took charge as the sporting director of Barcelona, the club have been linked with a number of young talents coming through the scenes in South America.

Vitor Roque has already been signed while players like Gabriel Moscardo, Estevao, and Rayan have all been linked with a club.

Another player who emerged on Barcelona director Deco’s radar is Alvaro Montoro of Velez Sarsfield.

At 16, Montoro has already caught the attention of many European clubs even though he has not made his senior breakthrough at Velez. Barcelona have reportedly sent scouts to keep track of his performances for a while now.

Montoro move ruled out

However, as per the latest update from Tomas Andreu of SPORT, Barcelona have definitively ruled out a move to sign Alvaro Montoro from Velez Sarsfield.

The club’s financial situation means that they are targeting players who can arrive for free or a low fee and with great potential to grow into top stars in the future.

Montoro fit both these parameters as the 16-year-old would have been available for free in January and has showcased great potential.

A midfielder by trade, Montoro is not yet a member of the Velez Sarsfield senior side, but he has shown a lot of promise during his time in the youth departments.

As such, Barça had considered signing him for the youth team or the reserves in the winter market, but have now decided to end their pursuit of the Argentine prodigy.

It is unclear whether the decision is based on financial or sporting reasons, but Barcelona have now ruled out a move for the 16-year-old.

Montoro is also attracting interest from clubs like Villarreal, Sevilla, AS Roma, and Fiorentina, and as such a move to Europe could very well be on the horizon. However, Barcelona have decided to end their pursuit of the teenager for January.
