It is indisputable that the emergence of Pedri was the biggest positive for Barcelona in the 2020/21 campaign.

Signed in 2019, the teenage midfielder was immediately loaned back to boyhood club Las Palmas. Back at Barca last term, just aged 17 at the time, Pedri was given a chance by manager Ronald Koeman, and he grabbed it with both hands.

Within a matter of weeks, Pedri had become one of the first names on the team sheet for Barcelona and went on to end the campaign with more than 50 games played.

In the meantime, the midfielder also broke into and cemented a place for himself in the Spanish national team as well. In fact, Pedri was La Roja’s best player on show as they made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Euro 2020 and was named the Young Player of the Tournament.

Now, Pedri is strutting his stuff out in Japan as part of the Spanish team at the Tokyo Olympics. His rapid rise to stardom obviously has not gone unnoticed. A top contender for the Golden Boy award for 2021, it seems like the teenage prodigy is also attracting interest from clubs across the continent.

Indeed, as revealed by RAC1’s Gerard Romero, Pedri has been a subject of a transfer enquiry from a big club in Europe. Barcelona, though, have rebuffed the query for their prodigy, letting them know in no uncertain terms that the 18-year-old is ‘untouchable’.

Barcelona’s stance on the matter should come as no surprise considering how highly Pedri is regarded within the club. The youngster will have a major role to play for the Blaugrana in the upcoming season and beyond that.

The only worry for the Catalans at this time would be Pedri’s fitness. Conceding the number of games he has played over the past year, fatigue is a major concern.
